How to set up & use your eSIM
How to install your travel eSIM, and how to manage it in your account after purchase.
Setting up your eSIM
An eSIM is a “digital SIM” you set up just by scanning the QR code we email you — no physical SIM swap, and your current SIM stays in place (dual SIM). It’s best to install it over Wi-Fi before you travel.
Set up in 3 easy steps
Right after purchase, the QR code and install link arrive by email (and in your account).
Over Wi-Fi before you leave, scan the QR (on iPhone you can use the one-tap link).
On arrival, just switch on “Data roaming” for the travel eSIM. No extra roaming charges.
📱 Setting up on iPhone
- Connected to Wi-Fi, open the email we sent.
- On iOS 17.4+, tap the “one-tap install” link and follow the prompts — done.
- On earlier iOS: Settings › Cellular/Mobile Data › Add eSIM › Use QR Code, then scan the QR.
- Give the new line a clear name (e.g. “Travel”). Your main number stays as-is.
- On arrival: Settings › Cellular, set Mobile Data to “Travel” and turn on Data Roaming.
🤖 Setting up on Android (Pixel, Galaxy, etc.)
- On Wi-Fi, open Settings › Network & internet › SIMs (or Mobile network).
- Choose “Download a SIM” or “Add eSIM”.
- Scan the QR code (or enter the activation code manually).
- Follow the prompts and name the line.
- On arrival, set the travel eSIM as mobile data and turn on roaming.
🗓️ When does it start?
- Your plan starts on the start date you chose, or the first time you connect abroad.
- Installing (scanning the QR) alone does not start billing or the day count. It’s safe to add it early over Wi-Fi before departure.
- If you set a start date, the day count begins on that date.
⏳ By when do you have to activate it? (activation deadline)
- Each plan has a window: you must start (activate) it within a set number of days from purchase.
- After that deadline it can no longer be activated. The exact deadline for your eSIM is shown on its detail page in your account.
- You can still install early even if you travel later — billing only starts on the start date or first connection.
🌏 When you arrive
- Turn on Data Roaming for the travel eSIM (most travel eSIMs are roaming-type; there are no extra roaming charges within your plan).
- Some local-carrier eSIMs don’t need roaming — follow the instructions for your specific plan.
- Turn off mobile data on your main line to avoid surprise charges. Calls, SMS and apps still work as usual.
❗ Important before you use it
If a plan covers your home country (e.g. Japan), turning roaming on can start data at home and use it up before you leave. Keep the travel eSIM’s Data Roaming and Mobile Data OFF until you depart, then turn them on abroad. If the plan lets you set a start date, set your travel date.
Scanning the QR does not start billing. Days and data begin on the start date or first connection. Don’t turn the line on until you need it.
You must start using it within a set period after purchase (varies by plan, shown in your account). After that it can’t be activated.
Switch mobile data back to your main line. You can delete the travel eSIM in your phone settings.
If it doesn’t connect
No internet
Try: 1) toggle Airplane mode on/off, 2) restart the phone, 3) check the travel eSIM is set as Mobile Data with Data Roaming on.
Signal bars but no data
Make sure the travel eSIM is the data line and the APN is set to automatic (it usually configures itself).
Worried about “roaming”
The travel eSIM shows as roaming by design; within your plan there are no extra charges.
If you run out of data
Daily plans slow down until the next day’s reset — no extra charges or cut-off. You can also top up from your account in a minute.
After your trip
No return or cancellation needed — just delete the eSIM profile in your phone settings.
What you can do in your account
📲[First · required] Add to your Home Screen as an “app”
- Right after purchase, add PANAM to your Home Screen as an “app” (no App Store needed). Your QR, data usage and top-ups then open instantly like an app.
- iPhone (Safari or Chrome both work, iOS 16.4+): tap the Share button (box with ↑) → scroll down to “Add to Home Screen” → “Add”. In a mail/social app’s in-app browser it may not appear — use “Open in browser” first.
- Android/PC: use the “Install” button that appears (or the browser ⋮ menu → “Install app”) for one-tap install.
- ⚠️ On iPhone especially, notifications (low-data alerts, etc.) only work after adding to the Home Screen (Apple’s requirement). Please add it first to avoid issues.
🔑Sign in (no password)
- Enter the email you used at checkout and tap “Send sign-in link”.
- Open the button in the email to sign in instantly (the link is valid once, for 15 minutes).
- No password needed. If the email doesn’t arrive, check your spam folder.
🧾Your orders
- See all your past orders and the status of each eSIM at a glance.
- Each order shows a status badge (see “Order statuses” below).
- Tap “View QR & usage” to open the detail page for that eSIM.
📲Show & install the QR code
- Re-display your QR code on the detail page (keep it private).
- On iPhone use “One-tap install”; on Android scan the QR to set it up.
- You can also download the QR image (PNG) or copy the manual activation code.
📊Check data & validity
- See remaining data on a usage bar (supported plans only).
- View activation date, expiry and days remaining. Unlimited plans have no usage meter.
- Daily usage and where it was used (supported countries) is also shown.
👪Share status with family
- Create a read-only “watch link” that shows only connection, data left and days remaining.
- It gives no access to the QR, the code, or your account.
- Revoke it anytime — handy for family to keep an eye on your status.
🛡️Request a money-back refund
- If a supported device set up correctly still couldn’t connect, you can request a refund under our guarantee.
- Open “Money-back guarantee” on the detail page and pick a reason.
- You can track the status (under review / approved / refunded) right here.
