Jag Project, LLC (Tokyo) today launched Travel AI Rescue, an AI that guides a traveler’s first steps in an emergency abroad. It is included in every plan of PANAM SafeTrip eSIM, sold on its own for any SIM, and offered by insurers, travel companies, booking sites, eSIM and pocket Wi-Fi providers and crisis-assistance providers to their own customers. The company also published a whitepaper, “How far should an AI answer in a travel emergency?”, on the risks of asking AI for advice, or to generate emergency contacts, when trouble strikes abroad.
What the study found
- AI-generated contact sheets. The company reproduced a common task: an administrator asks a chat AI for an emergency-contact sheet for a traveler. For 20 countries and three chat AIs (the models behind major services’ plans at the time of measurement, September 2026, queried via API without web search), two blind graders checked all 60 sheets against Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs listings. All three gave real police, ambulance and fire numbers. One free AI gave a Japanese-embassy number that differed from the embassy’s official main line in 3 of the 11 countries where the ministry lists one, and none of its 20 sheets advised checking.
- AI against how companies actually prepare. In a tabletop exercise of 24 written business-trip emergencies, the company compared six arrangements: a crisis-assistance provider, an admin-made handout, a guidebook, a free chat AI, a paid chat AI and Travel AI Rescue, with two blind judges scoring each. On the first report to the employer (0 to 2), Travel AI Rescue scored 2.00, ahead of the handout (0.92) and the paid AI (0.46). Of six tabletop measures, Travel AI Rescue matched or beat the paid AI on five. Prioritizing accurate contacts put it lower on first-action advice (1.75 vs 1.92). Only the crisis provider arranges people.
- Verified contacts instead of AI generation. On 74 questions on country-specific contacts and procedures, three chat AIs answering from their own knowledge had 14 to 18 contradictions each with official sources; Travel AI Rescue, using verified data, had none.
On well-formed general questions, Travel AI Rescue trailed the same engine used without its design by 12.5 points. That is an area being improved. Questions, scenarios, judging rules and verbatim answers are available on request.
How Travel AI Rescue works
Emergency and embassy numbers are never AI-generated; they come from data verified against official sources, and verified numbers can be called with one tap. The AI organizes the situation, prepares cards to show local people in their language, and drafts messages to the police, the insurer, the card company and the employer. The traveler sends them. Procedures saved before departure open offline. Travel AI Rescue is automated, 24-hour AI assistance, not a human service; it does not give medical or legal advice, assess insurance claims, or arrange transport or evacuation.
For partners
Partners can offer Travel AI Rescue to their customers as a white-label, OEM or resale corporate travel SIM (in Japan, from October 14), or inside their own app or member site with their own SIM or eSIM (quoted per project). Contact: info@jagproject.com.
